You will need: something to paint or draw with and a surface to draw on.
If you don't have standard pens pencils or paints use a twig/s, paper, if you don't have inks/paint try using strong black coffee, the consistency of milk (slightly thicker than water).
-
Use a stick with a fine point to draw with- better still if you have a bamboo stick cut this at an angle the hollow stich will hold more ink
-
Using a fresh fibrous twig then finely shred the fibres downwards about an inch, now you have an instant brush
Alternatively, if you are constructing something relief or three dimensional and don't have standard materials you could use several of the same items from your collection (see task paragraph) to make something three dimensional.
Next your task is to find a green space to forage for natural things you would find in nature.
You are looking for at least 6 small items that relate to a particular group (just 6 Twigs, just 6 feathers, just 6 stones, just 6 dead bugs,6 leaves, 6 flowers, or 6 foliage etc.)
Each of your objects must have a different quality, texture, size, density etc.
Create a response/ piece of art from your objects, that observes a number of these qualities.
There is no right or wrong way of doing this.
Not sure what to do? How about looking at illustrative botanical studies and land art by Andy Goldsworthy (Yes Goldsworthy often uses more than one variety of objects- quite often natural elements too, but we’ll keep it simple for now). So, anything between these two starting points or beyond is your range of interpretation.
Good luck and enjoy
Sue
